SCENE 1
POSTAL CENTER; FRANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA
(The machines are hard at work, and so is Ed Funsch. A machine scrolls the envelopes by him, and he types up the zip code as they do. The read-out states the zip code he pressed, for example, "33515," then "08619," then "21227."
Another example of a person efficient at their job. An envelope jams and he cuts his finger. His supervisor comes over and says he needs to talk, which is never good.
His supervisor says Ed’s work is first-rate and everyone likes him, but he’s the newest so he’s got to go. Then his supervisor asks him to stay on until the end of the week! WTF man?
But Ed goes back to his station and does his job, typing in zip codes. Until...KILL comes onto his screen. He stops but keeps going once the numbers reappear. He goes through a few more zip codes, then sees Kill ‘Em. Kill ‘Em All.
And we’re at the opening credits. So no one died in the cold open that we see, but I’m getting major “going postal” vibes.
Not-so-fun facts: Going postal is an American English slang phrase referring to becoming extremely and uncontrollably angry, often to the point of violence, and usually in a workplace environment. The expression derives from a series of incidents from 1986 onward in which United States Postal Service (USPS) workers shot and killed managers, fellow workers, and members of the police or general public in acts of mass murder. Between 1970 and 1997, more than 40 people were killed by then-current or former employees in at least 20 incidents of workplace rage. Between 1986 and 2011, workplace shootings happened roughly twice per year, with an average of 11.8 people killed per year.[1]

Main article: Indianapolis FedEx shooting
On April 15, 2021, a FedEx location near the Indianapolis International Airport was the site of a shooting that left 8 people dead in addition to the gunman himself. 4 of those who had died appeared to have gunshot wounds while 4 appeared to have sustained injuries resulting from shrapnel. The gunman, a 19-year-old former employee named Brandon Scott Hole, committed suicide.
Also, David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam was working at USPS as a letter sorter at the time of his arrest.
